George A. Conway, P.E., S.E., 79, died Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at McKinley Court, Decatur, Illinois.

George was born in February of 1938 in Decatur, Illinois, the son of Harold G. and Ruth I. Conway. He graduated from Argenta-Oreana High School. He proudly served three years in the U.S. Army 1961-1964 at Fort Bliss, Texas.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 11:00 am at Garver Brick UM Church (5280 Garver Church Road, Decatur, Illinois) with a visitation preceding from 9:30-11:00 at the church. Pastor Don Long will be officiating. Burial will be in Garver Brick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to the church.  Tanzyus Logan Funeral Service and Care is in charge of arrangements.

He graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.S degree in Civil Engineering, and was a Registered Professional Engineer and a Registered Structural Engineer. Upon graduating from college, he moved to Bakersfield, California, working three years for Standard Oil of California before returning to Decatur, Illinois. Locally he worked for H.L. Chastain & Associates, Blank Wesselink & Associates, Ahlenius & Conway Engineers, Architectural Engineering Associates, WVP Corporation, URS Corporation and AECOM retiring in 2016.

George is survived by his daughter, Alicia L. Conway-Thomas of Decatur and a son, Keith A (Conway) Gower; grandchildren, Kathryn Keller of Liberty, Iowa, James Keller of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Joseph Thomas of Decatur, Kassandra Gower and Preston Gower. He is also survived by two sisters, Marcia I. (Ron) Ritchie of Bloomer, Wisconsin, and Catherine D. Conway of Bartow, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Marshall D. of Decatur and Walter O. of Oreana, Illinois.

The family would like to say a big thank you to his friends at Friendship Hill for making a comfy home for George. He really loved it there! Also, thank you to the Garver Brick UM Church family for all of your help and support.
