Gene Law 1920-2018

18065H.Eugene “Gene” Law, 97 of Decatur died 3:05 am. Wednesday, June 20, 2018 in Generations at McKinley Court.

Funeral service to celebrate Gene’s life will be 1:00 pm. Monday June 25, 2018 at Christ United Methodist Church (1503 N. Summit Ave. Decatur, IL.) with Pastor Kelly Cox officiating. Visitation will be two hours before service time at the church. Burial with Military Honors by the Macon County Honor Guard will be at Macon County Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight Program. Tanzyus-Logan Funeral Service and Care is in charge of the arrangements.

Gene was born in November of 1920 in Owaneco, IL., son of Lloyd and Nellie Law. He graduated from Owaneco and Taylorville High Schools. Gene worked as a farm hand before entering the Army during World War II. He was a ball turret gunner in the Army Air Corp. Returning home he worked as a dry starch operator for A.E. Staley for 34 years. Gene owned and operated Law’s Antenna Service. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion and the Decatur Men’s Bowling Association. He was an avid CUBS fan. Gene married Julia Litchlyter in December of 1941 and she  preceded  him  in  death  in 2008.

Surviving are his daughters, Linda (R.Dean) Mahon of Decatur, Rebecca (Darryl) Manning of Troy, N.Y., grandchildren, David (Mary Smitherman) Coats of Montgomery, AL., Brian Coats of Charleston, S.C., Ben Colin of Troy, N.Y., Tony (Leslie Caulfield) Mahon, Mike (Amber Barker) Mahon, Kelli Mahon of Decatur great grandchildren, Alex, McKenzie, Kegan Mahon, honorary grandchildren, Haley and Haven Caulfield and Alexis Mahon, brother, Richard (Kathy) Law of Taylorville and five nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, Chester and Ivan, and in-laws, Lewis and Clarissa Litchlyter.

Gene was a fine man, husband, father, grandpa, and friend to many and he will be deeply missed.
