Betty J. Fulk 1935-2019


Betty Jane Fulk (Sanders), age 83, of Decatur, passed away January 20, 2019 in her home.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 25th at 10:00 am at First Free Will Baptist Church, Decatur, IL., with Stephen Cantrell officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday, January 24th at the church also. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park, Decatur, IL. Betty was born, in May of1935 in Fayette County, IL, daughter of Melvin and Ina G. Sanders. She married Clyde “Dean” Fulk, in November of 1953 and he preceded her in death in August of 2016. She was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church and devoted most of her lifetime to teaching children about Jesus in Sunday School and Children’s Church.

Surviving are her sisters: Loretta Fortner and Irma Gaither, both of Decatur, IL, brother-In-law, Jesse (Dorothy) Fulk of Maroa, IL, son, Michael D. Fulk of Decatur, IL, daughter, Barbara (Peter) Corey of Spring Hill, TN, eight grandchildren: Tara (Matt) Wickline, Jamie Reid of Decatur, IL, Joni (Jason) Moody of Sullivan, IL, Julie Fulk of Decatur, IL, Kyle (Nikki) Wickline of Sullivan, IL, Cole Groves, Jill (Ryan) Strong, Kristian Fulk of Decatur, IL, 16 great grandchildren: Heaven, Malayshia, Tyler, Garrett, Tatyana, Gavin, Hayden, Matthew, Julia, Jakeb, Easton, Kylie, Rowen, Brycen, Stella, and Miles, 2 great-great grandchildren: Bentley and Mya.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, mother and father-in-law, brothers, Junior Sanders, Roy Sanders, and infant brother Rohdell Sanders, sister, Pauline Linn, brothers-in-law, Joe Fortner, Larry Gaither, Howard Linn and sister-in-law Ollie Sanders.

Betty loved her entire family and the highlights of her life were her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She nurtured so well and will be missed by all who knew her gentle kindness. She was such a strong woman with a true servants heart, she never complained Betty always said, “That’s life.” Forever, we will always cherish the food and many stories, gatherings and love shared around her kitchen table.
