Carolyn Sue Winnett 1941-2020

Carolyn Sue Winnett, age 79, passed away 10:45 a.m. November 2, 2020 after a prolonged battle with cancer.

Carolyn was born in August of 1941 in Neoga, Cumberland County Illinois to Berlin and Alice Winnett.  Carolyn was the eighth child and third daughter out of ten children, growing up on the Winnett family farm.  In 1957, at sixteen years of age, Carolyn married Donald Wayne Langford.  They lived in Charleston Illinois with their five children, relocating to Decatur in 1968.  She was widowed with the passing of Donald in 1976. Later that same year she married Steve Walston, and was widowed again with Steve’s passing in 1999.

For many years Carolyn worked with the elderly, providing health care services in several nursing homes. Carolyn enjoyed doing things with her hands and developed a talent and skill at crocheting and needle work.  She was a devoted Christian and active member of the Spoken Word Church.  She loved spending time with her family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving Carolyn are three sons: Mark W. Langford (Sheila Strong), Guy W. Langford (Kimberly West), Nelson W. Langford and wife Angela; three brothers: David Winnett and wife Vera of Mattoon, Illinois, Roy Winnett and wife Karen of Metamora, Illinois, Ray Winnett and wife Diane of Charleston, Illinois.  Also surviving her are eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Carolyn was preceded in death by four brothers: Clifford Winnett, Frank Winnett, Jim Winnett and Joe Winnett; two sisters: Panadora Winnett and Joyce Winnett Thompson; four nephews: Andrew Thompson, George Thompson, Dale Thompson and Troy Winnett; daughter Tammy Lynn Langford McMahon, son: Donald Wayne Langford, Jr. and grandson: Donald Wayne Langford III.

Carolyn overcame many challenges and personal losses throughout her life.  Her life was centered around her love for her family, her belief in the Bible and her devotion and love for our Savior, Jesus Christ.  Carolyn possessed a beautiful, forgiving spirit and loving heart.  She will forever be missed by everyone that knew and loved her.

A Memorial Service Celebrating Carolyn’s life will be held at Salisbury Church, 2190 County Highway 5 Charleston, Illinois with a Graveside Service and Burial to follow at Beaver Cemetery, in Salisbury, Illinois. A date and time to follow pending. Tanzyus Logan Funeral Service and Care is assisting the family with the arrangements.
