Frederick Stanley Gibala, age 89 of Decatur, passed away at 8:55 am. Friday, January 18, 2019 in Amber Glen Retirement Home Urbana, Illinois with his family by his side.

A graveside service to celebrate Fred’s life will be held at 2:00 pm. Monday, January 21, 2019 at Graceland Cemetery. Milatary Rites will be given by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to Elwin United Methodist Church or Homeward Bound Pet Shelter. Tanzyus-Logan Funeral Service and Care is in charge of the arrangements.

Fred was born in June of 1929 in Benton, Illinois son of John and Mary Gibala. Fred served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a metallurgist for and retired from Caterpillar Tractor Company. Fred was a handyman who enjoyed fishing, boating at the Findlay Marina and playing with all of his grandchildren. He loved wintering in Florida. Fred married Kathryn Delores Lamastus in April of 1950 and she preceded him in death in June of 2015. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage.

Surviving are his children, Janice Pope and Michael (Melanie) Gibala of Decatur, grandchildren, Deana (Eric) Whitney, Heather Pope and Mike Davis of Decatur, Wesley (Lindsey) Gibala of Peoria, seven great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded by his parents and wife.

The family and friends will gather at the Bourbon Barrel following the graveside service.
