Ivan Jimenez Rosa, age 71 of Decatur, was welcomed into the arms of his Savior on Thursday, January 10, 2019 in V.A. IIIiana Health Care, Palliative Care Unit, Danville, Illinois.

Ivan was born in December of 1947 in Lares, Puerto Rico, the seventh child to fifteen born to Rafael and Maria  (Jimenez ) Rosa.  He graduated from Wm. H. Wells High School in Chicago.  Ivan loved his country and our flag serving in Vietnam Nam and is a veteran of the US Air Force.  Ivan married Beverly Sue Shelton in May of 1975.

He worked as a butcher at Peter’s Market, a custodian for Norfolk and Southern and for Little People’s Prep School from which he retired. Ivan loved and was devoted to his family, his faith, reading his Bible, and his

lawnmowers.  He had a passion for serving others, and delighted in being a jokester to all who truly knew him.

Lovingly known as Papa to family, he will be missed by his wife, Beverly Sue,  his children, Aaron (Sarah) Rosa of Decatur, Ruth (James) Rosa-Schmidt of Seattle, Wa, and Merry Rosa of Decatur. Grandchildren, Daniel and Joel Rosa of  Decatur, Arya and Riley Schmidt of Seattle.  Also surviving are two brothers, nine sisters, as well as numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters, and his beloved friend, Tony Delgado.

The family would like to give special thanks to the V.A. Palliative Care Unit staff for their compassion, care and respect for Ivan.

A Visitation with Family and Friends will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm,  Thursday January 17, 2019, at Harvest Christian Center (2199 N. Water St. Decatur, IL).  His funeral services will begin at 12:00 noon on Friday, January 18, 2019, also  at Harvest Christian Center.  A Military service will follow  at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, Illinois at 2:00 pm.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: V.A. IIIiana Voluntary Services, 1900 E. Main St., Danville,IL  61832 Bldg 104 (designate Ivan’s name on the memo line). Tanzyus -Logan Funeral Service and Care is in charge of  arrangements.
