Jack Gene Canaday 1935-2022

Jack Gene Canaday, 87, of Decatur died Monday February 28, 2022, in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, Illinois.

Funeral service to celebrate Jack’s life will be 10:00 am Friday March 4, 2022, at Heartland Community Church Decatur. Visitation will be one hour before service time at the church. Burial will 12:00 noon at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield. Memorials may be made to the Disabled Veteran’s Association. Tanzyus-Logan Funeral Service and Care is in charge of the arrangements.

Jack was born in Niantic, Illinois n January of 1935, son of Austin and Anna  Canaday. He graduated Niantic High School and attended Southern Illinois University. Jack served in the U.S. Army. He was an Engineer at Caterpillar Tractor Company. Jack married Ida Mae Hibner in December of 1963.

Surviving is his wife Ida Mae Canaday; children, Rob (Jill) Canaday of Hollister, MO, Mike (Shara) Canaday of Sarasota, FL, Debra (Dan) Ball of Argenta, IL; grandchildren, Jacob Ball, Daniel (Kellen) Ball, Rachelle (Joshua) Smith; great grandchild, Khonda Ball and one on the way; sister, Dorothy (Marcus) Lucera of Tucson, AZ; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his Parents; siblings, Bob, Amos, George, Austin Jr., Betty and Elsie.

Jack was a disabled veteran, a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather with a strong faith in God. He will be truly missed.
