John Robert Ragle, 83 of Argenta, passed peacefully surrounded by his family in his residence on Monday, December 16, 2019.
Funeral service will be held 10:00 am Friday, December 20, 2019 at the Bridge, 520 West Elm Street, Argenta, Illinois. Visitation will be held 5 to 8 pm. Thursday also at the church. Burial will follow the service at Friends Creek Cemetery in Argenta. Rev. Austin Hemmen will be officiating. Memorials may be made to the family to help with medical expenses. The family request casual attire. Tanzyus-Logan Funeral Service and Care is in charge of the arrangements.
John was born in October of 1936 in LeClede, Illinois the son of Phillip and Hazel Liggett Ragle. He married Mary Ann Moore on in March of 1960 in Decatur, IL. John retired from Bickes Wilbert Vault Company. He worked as a sheet metal worker for Kelly Construction. John served Argenta Oreana as Fire Chief, Road Commissioner, and Water Superintendent. He was a member of the 2 cycle tractor club, the civic club and the Loyal order of Moose. He enjoyed family farming, restoring vintage John Deere Tractors, raising cattle, and chickens, baling hay with his grandsons. Every year in October the family would have a cookout, hayrack ride, in honor of John’s birthday. Eating family favorites, shooting guns while dad would pull the hayrack around the country section as the family bundled up with blankets and flashlights.
Surviving are his wife Mary Ann Ragle of Argenta, three children, sons, John Eric (Tobey) and Michael Raymond both of Argenta, daughter, Carol Sue ( Lynn) Cook of Decatur, eight grandchildren, Sarah (Richard), Jillian, Blake, Daniel (Mindy), Matthew, Sean, Jonathan, Gretchen, nine great grandchildren, Keegan, Brock, Ireland, Jayden, Brylan, Aralynn, Anna, Griffin and Bristol, brother, Roger (Doreen) of Bonita Springs, Florida, two sisters, Virginia (Cecil) Smith of Champaign, IL., and Joanne Earley of West Branch, Michigan.
John was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Charles, Phillip, Bill and Danny, two sisters, Dorothy Darby and Grace Proud, daughter, Kathy Ann McHood.
