Michael “Mike” Edward Bland passed from this world unexpectantly on December 22, 2018 at his residence in Decatur, Illinois. Services to honor him had previously been delayed due to the passing of his father during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Burial will take place on Friday, May 7, 2021 during which he, and his recently deceased mother, Shirley Bland, will be laid to rest in a private family ceremony.
Mike was born in Danville, Illinois in July of 1956 to Robert Edward and Shirley Bland. The oldest of three siblings, he was a devoted son and loving brother with an enthusiasm for life. He was preceded in death by his parental and maternal grandparents, along with a collection of loved aunts and uncles.
Mike developed a passion for sports and sports statistics as a young child growing up in Chicago. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Blackhawks fan and faithfully followed both teams throughout his life. He had an innate ability to recite statistics precisely and accurately on both teams from an incredibly early age. His love of sports was reflected in all aspects of his life and he never tired of learning new statistics on players. This laid the groundwork for later obtaining his degree in Sports Broadcasting. Mike was a kind, amiable man who enjoyed meeting people and working with the public. He easily made many friendships in both his personal and professional life. Mike was a dedicated worker that inherited his strong work ethic from his parents. He worked tirelessly in the food and delivery service industries in a variety of settings for many years; most recently at Monical’s pizza prior to his death. Mike’s ongoing willingness to help others made him a respected employee and co-worker, as well as a trusted friend.
Leaving to mourn his loss are his family; life-long companion Judy Trusner, sister Nancy J. Scott Machlan (Michael), brother Robert D. Bland, uncle William Bland, Judy’s mother Joanne Trusner, his stepmother Charlotte Peddycoarte and a cherished host of nieces and nephews.
Rest in eternal peace brother, with our parents and loved ones at your side….
