Michael Thomas Auton, 72, passed away at his home surrounded by his loved ones on July 25, 2022 in Decatur, IL, He was born in October of 1949 in Decatur, IL to parents Lyda “Tootie” and Jessie Auton.
Michael graduated from Lakeview High School in 1968. He began his career at the Norfolk Southern in 1970. He married his wife Pamela in January of 1981 and had recently celebrated their 41st anniversary.
Michael’s favorite hobby was fishing. Nothing made him happier than spending summer days on his boat fishing Lake Decatur with his first mate in life, Pam. He always looked forward to his annual fishing retreat to Mark Twain Lake with his close friends and family.
Mike (known to his friends and family) was an avid sports fan. He rarely missed a game of his beloved St. Louis Cardinals.
Michael’s favorite pastime was spending time with his children. Whether hanging out poolside with his son and best friend Chad or discussing 70’s rock music with his daughter, Heather.
Also known as “Pappa Mike.” Michael cherished his grandkids, and they could do no wrong in his eyes. He always made sure to hug them all every time they were around. And he would constantly remind them to “shut the back door all the way” whenever they came to visit.
Michael was proceeded in death by his parents, stepfather Bill Claypool, brother Rodney Auton, sister Debbie Paslay, niece Missy Ford and nephew Keith Auton.
Michael is survived by his wife, Pamela, Decatur IL. Children: Chad (Kim) Auton, Decatur, IL. Heather (Dennis) Warner, Mt. Zion, IL. Grandchildren: Kolbi Allen, Patrik Hosier, Camden Auton, Tripp Warner and Camilla Auton. Siblings: Larry (Shelly) Auton, Roger (Karen) Auton, Steve (Lu) Auton, Dawn (Randy) Isham, Charles (Lori) Claypool. As well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Life will be held Friday, August 19th 11am at Northfolk Cemetery in Decatur IL. Donations can be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in lieu of flowers.
