Nancy Joan Alexander, age 76, of Decatur, passed away on July 26th, 2019 at St. Mary’s Hospital with her family by her side.
Nancy was born in November of 1942 in Decatur, Illinois to Robert and Betty Ridgeway. She graduated from Lakeview High School and attended college in Chicago, Illinois where she met her husband, Earsel Alexander.
Earsel Boyd Alexander and Nancy Joan were married in December of 1963 in Raleigh County, West Virginia. They enjoyed 47 years of marriage before Earsel passed in 2010.
Nancy worked as a secretary/receptionist/bookkeeper at Brush Enterprises in Bethany, Illinois until she retired.
Nancy was always family oriented. She enjoyed anything that involved the family getting together, and even spent many years researching genealogy. Nancy enjoyed traveling and took several trips to aid in her genealogical research.
She loved to travel.
Loved her teacup yorkies, enjoyed dressing them. She even carried her first female yorkie, Mickey, in a purse everywhere she went…even to church on Sunday. Her second yorkie, Mac, was so spoiled that he wanted to be in her arms at all times. He spent a lot of time perched on her shoulder when she was working on something and couldn’t hold him.
She was a photographer at the Coles Country Dragway for many years. She also raced there.
Surviving are her daughter, Loralyn Sue McArthur, sons, John Alexander, James (Chare’) Alexander all of Decatur brother, Larry Ridgeway of Decatur sister, Linda Merriman of Pekin brother, Michael Ridgeway of Decatur grandchildren, James, Dustin and Matthew McArthur, Melissa (Steven) Tatro, Jessica, Wessley Alexander, Jesse, Cameron Alexander and eleven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
A family-led Visitation and Celebration of Nancy’s Life will be held from 4 to 6 pm. Thursday, August 1, 2019 at Heartland Community Church, with Pastor Joe Bowman officiating. Memorials, if desired, may be made to Nancy’s family. Tanzyus-Logan Funeral Service and Care is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Nancy was loving, kind, nurturing, always eager to help anyone in need, generous, family oriented, one of a kind, loved life.
