After a strong battle with cancer, Carolyn J. (Holmes) Wilkinson, 65, of Decatur, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 24, 2018 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.\nCarolyn was born on February 25, 1953, in Illiopolis to parents Phillis and Orville Homes. She had 6 brothers and played a huge role in their lives growing up.\nCarolyn was an active member of her church, where Pastor Kirk Henneberry will be officiating the funeral service on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Harvest Christian Center (2199 N. Water St., Decatur). Visitation will be from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm with the funeral service at 1:00 pm. Tanzyus Logan Funeral Service & Care is in charge of the arrangements. The family requests that all attendees wear something blue as that was Carolyn’s favorite color.\nCarolyn was a very strong-willed and independent woman. She was a hard worker who made her mark in Decatur being the first woman to work for the City of Decatur Street Department, where she later retired.\nCarolyn enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, her two dogs (Jack and Sadie May), playing spades, and brightening a room with her contagious laugh and smile. Carolyn (Ma) will be deeply missed by her family. Ma was the matriarch of the family, the cook, and the listening ear for most. Her love for life, music and generosity will be remembered forever.\nSurviving are her four children: Son, Jim (Jeanne) Holmes, their two children James and Joy Lynn of Jefferson, GA; Daughter, Lisa Staley, and two children Colton and Amanda of Decatur; Daughter, Brenda Sarver, and children Ryan (Shelby), Jared and Kira, all of Decatur; and Daughter, Carrie Holderby of Decatur. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Julien and Carmen; brothers, Robin Holmes, Mike Holmes, Bobby Holmes, and Larry (Raisa) Holmes; her long-time friend Tim Bullock; and several loved nieces and nephews.\nShe was preceded by her parents, and two brothers, Orville and David Holmes.
