The Master called Charles (Charlie) R. Michels home on Friday November 24, 2017 with his wife Phyllis by his side.\nA memorial service to celebrate Charlie’s life will be held 6:30 pm. Monday November 27, 2017 at First Christian Church (3350 North MacArthur Road Decatur, Illinois 62526) with Pastor Wayne Kent officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Camp Butler National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church. Tanzyus-Logan Funeral Service and Care is in charge of the arrangements.\nCharlie was born in February of 1935 in Chicago, Illinois, son of Charles R. and Sybil Virginia Michels. He attended schools in Chicago and Decatur. Charlie served in the U.S. Air Force 1957 to 1961 as Airman 1st Class in the 99th bomb wing. He retired from (Staley's) Tate & Lyle in 1992. He was a maintenance Supervisor. Charlie married Dolores Auten in 1964 to 1977. He then married Phyllis (Hodges) Munson in October of 1987. Charlie enjoyed billiards, reading and spreading the love of Jesus.\nSurviving are his wife, Phyllis Michels of Warrensburg, son, Matthew (Elizabeth) Michels of Shiloh, Illinois, daughter, Christina Michels of O’Fallon, Illinois, step-children, David (Jean) Munson, Diana (Chuck) Troeckler, grandchildren, Matthew and Zachary Johnstone, Chloe, Elias and Cassie Michels, step-grandchildren, Cory and Brandon (Chelsea) McQueen, Brian (fiancée Lindsey) and Craig Munson, Matt and Nick Troeckler, great step-grandchild, Colton McQueen.\nHe was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sybil Jackson.\nHe loved his step-children and step-grand children and step-great grandchild as his own.
