Dorothy J. Dettling Obituary (2017)

Dorothy Josephine Dettling, 95, of Decatur died Sunday, August 20, 2017 in McKinley Court Nursing Home. Graveside service will be 10:30 am Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Hammond Cemetery, Hammond, IL. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to The Elks Club. Tanzyus-Logan Funeral Service and Care is in charge of the arrangements. Dorothy was born in December of 1921 in Alhambra, IL, daughter of Alfred and Mable Murphy. She was a mid-year graduate of Decatur High School in 1940. Dorothy was a member of the Women’s Elks Club. She worked for Merry Randolph Auto Supply and Meadow Gold Dairy. Dorothy married Lewis M. Dettling in May of 1946; he preceded her in death in September of 1998. Surviving are her sons, Dennis (Cheryl) Dettling of Lovington, IL., Neil (Carla) Dettling of Hammond, IL., grandchildren, Mindi Potts of LaVerne, TN., Todd (Rachel) Dettling of Decatur, great grandchildren, Wesley, Megan, and Lindsey Potts of LaVerne, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and five brothers, granddaughter, Rachel Michelle Dettling.
