Mose
Eileen Loretta Mose (Evans), 90, passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2026, surrounded by the faith, family, and love that defined her long, remarkable life. Born on April 21, 1936, in Decatur, Illinois, to Russell J. and Mabel (Risinger) Evans, Eileen grew up in Long Creek, Illinois, and spent most of her life in Decatur before moving to Paducah, Kentucky, four years ago.
Eileen was the youngest of nine children and the last surviving sibling. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Mose; her cherished daughter, Edith Waldrop (Reed); her great-granddaughter, Kelsea; her parents, Russell J. and Mabel (Risinger) Evans; and her eight older siblings.
Eileen is survived by her sons, Jacob Reed and Daniel (Audray) Reed; her grandchildren, Brandon Reed, Kevin Waldrop, Timothy Waldrop, Rebecca (Brian) Davis, and Arthur Keller; twelve great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; and her special friend, May.
To her family, Eileen was the heart and glue that held everyone together. When her daughter Edith passed away in 1987, Eileen and George stepped in without hesitation, taking in all five of her children and raising them as their own so they could grow up together. Her boundless devotion extended seamlessly to the generations that followed, and she treasured her great-grandchildren and precious great-great-grandchildren.
A woman of immense talent and a strong work ethic, Eileen was a longtime baker for Swartz Restaurant and later retired from Eagles in South Shores, where she made donuts. At home, her baking was a direct expression of her love. Every holiday, she baked pies for each grandchild—apple, pecan, cherry, pumpkin, or whatever made them happiest.
Eileen was funny, stubborn, fiercely independent, and sweet. She loved owls, bowling, playing the piano, gospel music, and her lettuce salad. A devout woman of deep faith, she was a longtime member of Moundford Free Methodist Church and later Central Baptist Church in Decatur before joining Rickman Road Baptist Church upon moving to Paducah. Her faith and the music she loved remained an important part of her life, and she could often be found singing or playing the hymns and songs that meant so much to her on the piano.
Eileen meant everything to her family. She was deeply loved, will be profoundly missed, and her extraordinary legacy of selflessness, resilience, and unconditional love will touch generations for the rest of their lives.
A funeral service to celebrate Eileen’s life will be held at 11 am on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Central Baptist (1275 Mt. Gilead Rd. Decatur, Illinois 62521) Pastor Dave Brown will be officiating. A visitation will be an hour before the service at the church as well. Graveside and Burial to follow at Point Pleasant Cemetery.
