Zindel
Elsie (Martin) Zindel, a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother, took her last breath on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at the Eastern Star Home in Macon, IL.
Born in Shelbyville, IL, on January 9, 1933, and after graduating from Shelbyville High School, she worked for a time at the Shelbyville Telephone Office. She married Loyal Leslie (Les) Zindel on July 27, 1952, in Moweaqua, IL. Elsie and Les settled on Walker Road in Macon, where they raised their three daughters and proudly sent them off to college and to live successful lives. Les said that one of Elsie’s responsibilities was to raise young ladies, and she made sure that she fulfilled that responsibility. Elsie was a member of the Eastern Star and a women’s club in Macon for several years. She also was a member of the Macon Presbyterian Church. After Les’ death on July 13, 1998, she stayed on the farm with the help of Rick White, the “young man” who farmed for her, until she transitioned to the Eastern Star Home in 2020. The family thanks Rick, the staff of the Eastern Star Home, and the Memorial Hospice staff for their support and care.
Elsie leaves daughter Teena Zindel-McWilliams and husband Brad of Decatur, their son Sam and wife Elizabeth of Oakland, California; daughter Ann Waltermire and her husband Curt of Park City, Kansas, and their daughters Amelia Grabowski and son Lane of Machias, New York, and Sarah Skaggs and her husband Clayton and their daughter Zoey of Wichita, Kansas; grandson Dallas and wife Shanna Gregory and their daughter Olivia of Chatham, IL. She also leaves nieces and nephews and extended Martin and Zindel families in multiple states. Elsie was preceded in death by daughter Cindy Gregory Ford, husband Les, one brother, three sisters, and her parents.
Memorials may be made to the South Macon Public Library, Macon, IL. A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date. Tanzyus Logan Funeral Service and Care is in charge of the arrangements.
