Elwin Frederick Tiarks, 96 of Decatur died at 10:10 am. Saturday, June 23, 2018 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.\nA funeral service to celebrate Elwin’s life will be at 12:00 noon Friday, June 29, 2018 at St. John’s Lutheran Church (2727 North Union Decatur, Illinois) with Pastor Adam Ray officiating. Visitation will be two hours before service time also at the church. Burial with Military Honors by the Macon County Honor Guard will be at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials if desired may be made to the church or the Northeast Community Fund. Tanzyus-Logan Funeral Service and Care is in charge of the arrangements.\nElwin was born in February of 1922 in Buckley, Illinois, son of Fred and Freida Tiarks. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the VFW. Elwin was a member of the Barber’s Union and operated Tiarks Barber shop on Eldorado Street. He was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He married Jeanette Frances Dills in June of 1948 and she preceded him in death in March of 2015.\nSurviving are his daughters, Jeannie McCammack of Rowlett, Texas, Kathie (Michael) Rhoades of Decatur, sons, Mark (Debbie) Tiarks of Sullivan, Illinois, Richard (Linda) Tiarks of Gifford, Illinois, Danny Tiarks of Los Angeles, California, twelve grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, sisters, Arvella McManus and Bernice Zabel.\nHe was preceded by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.\nElwin was a good father, grandfather and brother and he will be deeply missed.\nPlease sign the family guest book.
