Fredrick L. Dodson Obituary (2018)

Fredrick L. Dodson, 78, of Decatur passed away Monday, March 12th, 2018 at DMH surrounded by his family. Fred was born in October of 1939 in Decatur, Illinois, the son of James and Mildred Dodson. He was an avid Cubs fan, never met a stranger and enjoyed sharing old stories while visiting with family and friends. He is survived by his brothers Jim and Ron Dodson; children: Jacina (Scott) Cookson, Rick (Sherry) Dodson, Tony (Lisa) Dodson, Troy (Jill) Dodson, Chad Dodson and Chassity (Paul) Foster; his companion of twenty-three years Diane Nihiser and her children Gina (Mike) Ellis and Bobby (Nicole) Tussing; also a ton of grandkids and half ton of great grandkids. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, sister Marilyn, two wives and grandson Mitchell Dodson. Per his direction, he wishes to be cremated and in lieu of a memorial service he asked that family and friends gather to swap memories and enjoy a fried chicken dinner in his honor. The family would like to thank the SIU Medical team at DMH for their compassion and care, and send a special thanks to Dr. Charles Ellington – Your cowboy boots always made our dad smile.
