George Allen “Poppy” Statzer, 72, died Sunday, April 14, 2019, in his residence.\nA family led memorial service will be Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 3:00 pm at Destiny Fellowship (2500 N. Main, Moweaqua, IL) with Pastor Doug Rudow from Spirit of Life Church officiating. Visitation will be one hour before at Destiny Fellowship. Tanzyus Logan Funeral Service and Care is assisting with arrangements.\nPoppy was born June of 1946 in Monticello, IL, the son of Guy and Leola Statzer. He worked as a painter/carpenter, was a member of ABATE, a Cub fan, and a Dallas Cowboy fan. His favorite music was Christian worship and country; favorite Bible verses were Psalm 23; and his hobbies included the pool hall and riding his Harley.\nPoppy is survived by daughters: Stacy (Bob) Sheets of Dalton City, IL, Mindy (Rodger) Shafer of Mt. Auburn, IL, Sunni (Nick) Calhoun of Decatur, IL, and Samantha McIntosh of Mahomet, IL; grandchildren: Adam Koehler of Decatur, Rachel (Joe) Elbl of Maryland Heights, MO, Max Shafer, Sydni Shafer of Decatur, IL, Gage Shafer of Mt. Auburn, IL, Keri McIntosh of Champaign, IL, and Samara Taylor of Mahomet, IL; great-grandchildren: Louie, Max, Evie and Gibby Elbl. His brothers: Tom (Janice) Statzer of Edmond, OK, Doug (Merilee) Statzer of Rantoul, IL; and sister: Karla (Mike) Dillon of Newman, IL survive as well as several nieces and nephews.\nHe was preceded by his wife, Sue; parents; brothers, Mike and Jeff, and sister, Virginia.
