Gregory Scott Camp was born November 1968, Decatur, Illinois to parents Larry & Janet Camp. He passed away unexpectedly at age 55, May 10, 2024 in Manhattan, Kansas.
Greg Camp and Jeralyn Dean were married in May 1997 at Ridgeview Park Presbyterian Church of Davenport, Iowa. They just celebrated their 27th anniversary.
Greg graduated from Southern Illinois University with a B.A. in Graphic Design in 1994, in Carbondale, Illinois. He received his Certificate of Completion in Multimedia at the School of Communication Arts in 1996 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
After graduation, Greg began his professional career at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago as a multimedia designer. He simultaneously freelanced part-time as a graphic designer. In 2004, Greg accomplished his life long dream of self employment, establishing Polka Dot Sox Creative Group, a multimedia advertising and marketing company focused on growing small businesses.
Greg was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and transferred to Moundford Free Methodist Church in Decatur. After marriage to Jeralyn and setting roots in Naperville, IL, they transferred their family membership to the Knox Presbyterian Church. Greg accepted Christ as his Savior as a teenager and trusted Jesus as an ever presence to guide his life in all things.
Greg lived in Naperville with his wife and children until 2023. Last year, Greg and Jeralyn moved to Lafayette, Indiana where they were happily pursuing his dream of gardening on their own land, becoming self-sustaining and having a quiet place to live out their remaining years together.
In addition to gardening, Greg’s hobbies included coaching his son William’s basketball teams and watching the college talent. He also loved photography, camping, archery, target practice, other artistic pursuits and he very much enjoyed cats.
Greg was a wonderful husband and father; always considering the needs of others. He never met a stranger and had a way of putting all people at ease with his calm and caring demeanor. He was creative and had the ability to turn the simplest situations into hilarious stories. Greg often had good advice to give for most any aspect of life and included a story to back it up. He was often animated and enthusiastic when he spoke; making you feel as though you were a part of his story. He was attentive and in tune with people’s emotions which allowed him to be the most caring husband, father and friend.
Greg is survived by his wife Jeralyn Camp of Lafayette Indiana, his two children Jillian Camp, Kansas City, Kansas and William Camp, Knoxville, Tennessee, his mother Janet Camp, Decatur, Illinois, his cats Calvin, Ralphie, and Sophie, as well as many cousins and dear friends. Greg was preceded in death by his father, Larry Camp.
Visitation is Friday May 17th at Moundford Free Methodist Church in Decatur, IL from 3:00-5:00pm and Service in his honor will follow at 5:00 pm. Burial graveside service is Saturday May 18th at Meadow View Cemetery in Lafayette, Indiana at 12 noon eastern time.
