Harrell Walter Ellis, 84 of Clinton formerly of Decatur died Saturday, August 7, 2021 in OSF St. Francis Hospital Peoria, IL. A family-led celebration of life service for Harrell will be held on Sunday, August 22, 2021 from 2-5 pm at his residence in Clinton, IL. Memorials in his honor may be made to The American Cancer Society or to the Lane Christian Church. Tanzyus-Logan Funeral Service and Care is assisting with the arrangements. Harrell was born in Decatur in May of 1937 son of John Everett and Helen Ellis. He attended Decatur Public Schools. Harrell worked for the Decatur Township Cemeteries and was Sexton of Greenwood Cemetery. Harrell enjoyed puzzles, puzzle books, woodworking and was a winter Texan. He collected coins, lighters and knives and clocks. He married Shirley Benefiel of Clinton, IL in December of 1994. Surviving is his wife, Shirley Ellis of Clinton, step-children, Carol (Scott) Wilke of Villa Ridge, Mo., Stephanie (Roben) Huffman of Clinton, IL., Stan (Jody) Covey of Clinton, IL., Scott Covey of Phoenix, AZ., Shannon (Tara) Covey, of Bloomington, IL., several step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Lysle, sister, Jean and step-daughter, Sonya Larkin.
