James "Jim" Van Praag Obituary (1931 - 2023)

VAN PRAAG James Norman Van Praag, 92, died December 9, 2023, at 9:20 pm. at Shelbyville Monor in Shelbyville, IL. A private family service and burial will be held at a later date at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Riverton, IL. Tanzyus-Logan Funeral Service and Care is in charge of the arrangements. James was born in July of 1931, in Decatur, the son of Alex and Bernice Van Praag Jr. He graduated from Stephen Decatur High School. James served in the Navy during the Korean War. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois and worked along side his father for many years at Warren & Van Praag Consulting Engineers and Architects. He owned several businesses over the years, including Field and Shorb in Decatur, IL. He was an avid car enthusiast. He resided most of his years in the St. Louis area. He married Margaret “Nan” Robertson Van Praag in January of 1982 in Decatur, IL. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother, Roger, stepdaughter, Tammy Skelley and one grandson. Survivors include stepson, Jim (Pam) Musser of Decatur, IL., stepson-in-law, John Skelley of Nashville, TN., five grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
