Jerry Gene Myers, 86, formerly of Decatur, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, September 28, after a courageous struggle with Parkinson’s disease. His daughters Sandi and Linda were by his side.\nJerry was born in Blue Mound, Illinois, to Raymond and Juanita Myers. After high school, he went into the Navy. While serving his country as a sailor, he met and married his Southern belle, Beatrice (née Sellers); their first daughter, Sandra, was born while he was at sea. Two years later, their daughter Linda was born, and after another year and a half, their third daughter, Vicki, arrived.\nAfter leaving the Navy, Jerry worked for Wagner Castings Co. as a tool and die maker. He also had a successful saw-sharpening business, working in his garage in the evenings. Jerry and his family faithfully attended Riverside Baptist Church, where he was an active member, sang in the choir, and was elected a deacon and a trustee.\nA few years after his retirement from Wagner Castings, Jerry and Bea moved to Glen Burnie, Maryland, to be closer to their daughters Linda and Sandi. When they could no longer live on their own, they moved into Genesis of Severna Park, where Jerry’s 100-watt smile and friendly personality quickly made him popular with residents and staff. His beloved Bea passed away in 2017, but Jerry knew he’d see her again in heaven; on Saturday, September 28, he did.\nJerry is survived by his three daughters, Sandi Long (Allen), Linda Bowman (Barry), and Vicki Dewiel (Dale); and by four grandchildren, Justin Bowman, Brandon Bowman, Megan Dewiel Davis (Jesse), and Isaac Dewiel. He will also be remembered by his many friends as a loyal husband, a loving father, and a wonderful Christian example.\nThe viewing will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 6, at Riverside Baptist Church, 1250 W. Mound Rd., Decatur. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m.
