Decatur, Illinois

Norma Harmeier of Decatur IL passes away on July 18th ,2024 in her family home surrounded but her loved ones.

Norma was born in Decatur to Ethel and Ralph Hector, she was the second youngest of 11. In her younger years Norma enjoyed traveling with her sisters and caring for her nieces and nephews. In her teen years she attended Mount Zion high school and spent her free time riding and caring for her beloved horse Stranger. After graduating high school, she began working at AE Staley as a Clerk. She took pride in being one of the first employees to learn and become proficient in their computer operating system. While working at Staley she met Robert ‘Bob’ Harmeier, they had a beautiful 60 years together. Norma and Bob built a home but more importantly a life and family together in their 60 years. They were blessed with two children Keith and Paula. They loved to travel together and were active members of Concordia Lutheran Church. Norma retired from Staleys in December of 1991. After retirement Norma continued to travel, going on cruises with Bob and their best friends Margret and Richard, some of her fondest memories. However, her favorite activities after retirement always included her grandkids. From canning vegetables from her garden to fighting over the remote she loved every moment with her 5 grandkids and later her 2 great grandkids. In her later years she enjoyed the smaller things, a strong cup of coffee, sharing meals with her dog Shug, watching McLeod’s daughters and laughing with her family.

Norma was greeted in heaven by her parents, 10 brothers and sisters, her husband, and many friends.

Left to cherish her memory are her kids Keith (Mary) Harmeier and Paula Mesecher. Her grandkids Justin (Charity) Harmeier, Karis (Sam) Becker, Sydnee (Tat) Harmeier and her two great grandkids Theo and Bennett. She will be as greatly missed as she was loved.
