Norma Jean (Deakins) Mowry, age 87, of Decatur, surrounded with family and dear friend Helen Pumphrey by her side, departed from her earthly to heavenly home on Thursday, May 30, 2019, while at home.\nA Memorial Service will be at 11:30 am on Monday, June 3, 2019 at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church (4135 Mt. Auburn Road, Decatur, IL 62521). Tanzyus Logan Funeral Service and Care is in charge of arrangements. A private burial will be held at a later date. Memorials: Bethlehem Presbyterian Church.\nNorma was born in Decatur, Illinois, on May 3, 1932, the daughter of Isaac Henry Deakins and Marie Eva (Spanhook) Deakins. Norma married Loren Lee Mowry in October of 1951, at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, Decatur, IL. They shared 67 years of marriage, recently renewing their vows last Christmas Sunday. Norma worked as a Home Health Aide. For 25 years, she and her husband managed the home delivery of the Wall Street Journal newspaper. Previous work included positions at City Directory, Gordon Jewelers, and Moore’s Disposal. Norma was a Member of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church and the Decatur Genealogical Society. She was a 1950 graduate of Stephen Decatur High School.\nSurviving are her son, Ike Lee Mowry of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Donna Jean Hord of Decatur, IL; sister in-law Wanda F. Williams of Ashland, IL; nieces and nephews. Norma was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers-in-law: Ernest Mowry, George Mowry, Paul Williams, John Wright, and Harlan Taylor; sisters-in-law, Deloris Wright and Dorothy Taylor.\nOn behalf of the family, special thanks to St. John’s Hospital Home Health and Hospice Services and Caregiver Judy Simpson.
