GREGORY
Phyllis Kay (Fisher) Gregory 84 of Decatur died at 7:23 pm Tuesday, November 26, 2024, in St. Mary’s Hospital.
Phyllis was born on Aug 20, 1940, in Decatur, IL to Herbert Lynn and Edna Josephine Fisher. Phyllis attended Argenta Oreana High School, graduating in 1958. Phyllis married Gerald Lee Gregory on July 28, 1958. Phyllis was a homemaker and mother but began working at Kohl’s in the mid-80s and retired in 2008.
Phyllis was a member of Garver Brick United Methodist Church. She was an active and vibrant social butterfly with many friends and interests. Above all, she had a servant’s heart and devoted many hours to volunteering with the church and caring for her relatives, friends, and sometimes perfect strangers. If you were ill, down on your luck, or just needed a friend, Phyllis would be there. The joys of her life were many, as she had an eternal glass half-full attitude, but her pride and joy were her two grandchildren. One of her many loves was music, and she enjoyed many years of listening to her granddaughter singing and her grandson playing guitar.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gerald, her sister Delores Dement, her brother Dean Fisher, and her daughter-in-law Mari Gregory. Her children and grandchildren survive her: Gerald Gregory Jr. of Fayetteville, TN, Kelly (Leah) Gregory of Troy, IL, Olivia Gregory and partner Samuel Mohart of Los Angeles, CA, and Finneas Gregory of Troy, IL.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to be made to Garver Brick United Methodist Church.
A memorial service to celebrate Phyllis’ life will be held at 11:30 am. Thursday December 5, 2024, at Garver Brick Church. A visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. A private inurnment will be in Friends Creek Cemetery Argenta. Tanzyus-Logan Funeral Service and Care is in charge of the arrangements.
