Robert James Atkins

Robert “Bob” James Atkins, age 79 of Mt. Zion, passed peacefully on Saturday morning, July 2, 2022 and was ushered into heaven pain-free.

Bob was born in September of 1942, to Harry and Lillian (Shereiv) Atkins.  He was a graduate of Stephen Decatur High and worked for AE Staley Company for 31 years.  He married Sharon Melton in November of 1962.  Bob always had a joke, dearly loved his kids and grandkids, and was a friend to everyone he knew.

Surviving is his wife, Sharon; son Robbie (Stacy) in Kentucky; granddaughters Brittney and Bailey of Kentucky; great granddaughter Cambri; a brother Jerry (Jennifer); and sister Delores; and faithful companion Blaze.

Bob was preceded by son Brian; his parents; and sister Joyce.

A Family-led Memorial Service to Celebrate Bob’s life will be July 30th at Mt. Zion Christian Church (1125 Florian Avenue, Mt. Zion, IL) beginning at 10:00 am Pastor Rocky Woolery, Officiating.
