Robert “Bob” Newton Martin Jr., 78 of Decatur died on Monday October 12, 2026, in Springfield Memorial Hospital.

A funeral service will be held Monday October 19, 2026, at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Decatur with Pastor Bill Abbott officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am. Monday at the church with the service beginning at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Pawprint Ministries or The Newlife Pregnancy Center. Tanzyus-Logan Funeral Service and Care is in charge of the arrangements.

Bob was born in February of 1948 in Paris, Texas son of Robert and Ann Martin. He served in Vietnam in the U.S. Army. Bob worked for ADM, and in construction as a Union Laborer Local 159, and provided custodial services for Pilgrim Lutheran Church. He had a love for Harley Davidson Motorcycles and was a Helicopter mechanic. Bob enjoyed watching the helicopters and planes in flight at Decatur Airport and going to the barbershop every day to see friends. He was quite the character to say the least. He wanted others to know he was “livin' the dream” and wanted them to live the dream also! Now Bob’s truly living the dream…in eternal life. Bob loved sharing his faith in Jesus with many. He married Jane Elizabeth Kubow in October of 1978 and shared 47 years together. We will miss him very much and look forward to seeing him in heaven.

Surviving is his wife, Jane Martin of Decatur, daughters, Kellyann (Jason) Bright of Decatur, Elizabeth Tara Martin of Champaign, grandson, Josh (Chelsie) Howell of Decatur and brother, Don (Jeanie) Martin of Decatur.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Glenn Martin.
