Robert Vern Henderson, 90, left this earth on Saturday, March 17, 2018 to join his Heavenly Father. He was born on January 26, 1928 in Decatur, Illinois to Herbert Henderson and La Neva Henderson.\nFuneral service will be held at Calvary Southern Baptist Church (1833 South Country Club Road, Decatur, Illinois) on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at noon. Visitation will be three hours before the service. In lieu of flowers, he would appreciate donations be made to the Calvary Southern Baptist Church Building fund. This project was very dear to him because he had worked on it from the beginning. A graveside and burial service will be at Point Pleasant Cemetery, Long Creek, Illinois. Tanzyus Logan is in charge of arrangements.\nBob enlisted in the Navy at the age of seventeen and was honorably discharged at the end of the war in 1945. He loved to tell stories about his days spent as a cowboy in Wyoming working with his brother Bill.\nBob returned to Decatur where he met and married A. Rosetta Wangler in December of 1949. There were five boys born to this union: Charles Earl Henderson, Michael LeRoy Henderson (Tina), John Robert (Johnboy) Henderson, James Marvin Henderson (Deb) all of Cerro Gordo, Illinois, and Paul Douglas (Picklehead) Henderson (Pam) of Argenta, Illinois. He was blessed with ten grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.\nBob was preceded by his parents; step-dad Harry Kelly; his wife, A Rosetta Henderson; one grandson, Michael Kelly Henderson; and one great-great-grandson.\nBob loved to sing and some of his best times were spent attending jam sessions and performing with the Arthritic Kitchen Band. He also played wash tub bass with Gospel Connections and his son, Michael. Bob had also written several songs which are family treasures. He was also a member of the Laborers International Local 159 where he served as President.
