Thomas Richard “Tom” Hankins Jr., 84 of Harristown, died Sunday, September 1, 2019 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.\n\nFuneral service to celebrate Tom’s life will be 10 am. Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Camp Wilson Foursquare Church (7570 West Main Street, Decatur, Illinois) with Pastor Brian Canaday, officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 7 pm. Friday, September 6, 2019 at the church. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park with Military Rites by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation. Tanzyus-Logan Funeral Service and Care is in charge of arrangements.\n\nThomas was born in Brownstown, Illinois in February of 1935, son of Thomas R. and Lydia C. Hankins Sr. He went through the eighth grade before starting work with the Wabash Railroad as a laborer in 1952. Thomas served in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne as a Paratrooper. He later worked as a Federal Track Inspector and after retiring he worked for the Park District. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Tom enjoyed spending time with his family and friends playing cards. He was a woodworker, hunter, fisherman who loved country, bluegrass, and gospel music. He married Judith Davidson in February of 1964.\n\nSurviving are his wife Judy; daughters: Laura Hankins (Eric Isaac), Christina Chalmers (Aron Wisley), Sheila (Nile) Wagner; grandchildren, Jeff (Vannessa) Mudd, Trent and Peyton Wagner, Coltin and Justin Chalmers; great grandchildren, Cheyenne, Cayden and Clayton Mudd; sisters, Genevive Wood and Cloe Jo Osborn.\n\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; son, James Michael Hankins; brothers, Leonard, Joseph and Wayne; sisters, Ruby Shipman, Mildred Jett, Mary Hassebrock and Elizabeth Dwarsack.
