Willard Girard “Girard” Durbin, 80, of Decatur passed on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at Rose Garden of Pana.

A funeral service to celebrate Girard’s life will be held at 11 am on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at St. John's Lutheran Church (2727 N. Union St Decatur, Illinois 62526). Pastor Aaron Bird will be officiating. A visitation with family and friends will be at the church an hour prior to service. Please, the family prefers no flowers. Memorials can be made out to St. John’s Lutheran Church, or to the Pawprint Ministry (2555 E. Federal Dr. Decatur, Illinois 62526), or donors’ choice. Tanzyus Logan Funeral Service and Care is in charge of the arrangements.

Girard was born in December of 1945 in Decatur, Illinois son of Willard and Lorine Durbin. He graduated from Lakeview High School in 1963, served for the National Guard from 1964-1971 and worked for Caterpillar for forty-two and a half years. Girard married Jan in August of 1968 at Pilgrim Lutheran and together raised a beautiful family. He was a member of the Promise Keepers Men’s Ministry.

Survived by his wife Jan, daughters; Jenel (Kevin) Short and Anne (Patrick) Shields, and three grandchildren; Jude Short, Eleanor Shields, and Ryan Shields.

He was preceded in death by his son Brent, his parents, one sister and two brothers.
