Patrick “Vern” Stowell 1937-2019

19036ARMY_Patrick Stowell went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, March 31, 2019 at 11:24 pm at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana,  Illinois.   The visitation will be on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 from 5 pm to 8 pm at The First Nazarene Church (1177 W Hickory Point Rd, Decatur, IL). His service will be on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at 10 am with a graveside service following.

Pat was born March 1937 in Geneseo, IL, the son of Ward and Lillian Stowell. Pat was married to Linda Kay Stowell who resides in Cisco, IL. He had three children: Rodney (Lisa) Stowell, Laura Stowell, Bryan (LynnDee) Stowell; three step children, James (Erica) Cox, April (Dave) Hunt, and Allison (Jason) Durbin; and an adopted daughter, Cheryl (Rudy) Hubner. Pat has 22 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pat was an active member of Decatur First Church of the Nazarene and volunteered in many areas. He was able to serve the Lord on 2 mission trips to Hawaii and 2 mission trips to Nicaragua.

Pat was drafted in the U.S. Army and trained in underwater demolition. Pat served his country in the Army for three years. Pat worked at Ill Mo welding and then went to work at A.E. Staley as an electrician where he retired in 1996. He was an avid ham operator and held an Amateur Extra class license as N9PN. He was involved in Army Mars, ARES and CENYS radio club and Monticello radio club. In his spare time he loved storm spotting for ESDA. Pat served as an auxiliary police officer in Decatur. He also spent time with Wabash RR. In his younger days he enjoyed roller skating at Chaps. He loved traveling, fishing, camping, telling jokes, playing marbles and spending time with his friends and family.

Preceding him in death are his wife of 55 years, Judith Ann Holmes; his parents, Ward and Lillian Stowell, and birth parents, Marie R. Hauman and John B. Debout.

Pat had a great love for Christ that carried over to anyone who knew him and was a major part of his testament of his life. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions be made to the family to help with expenses or to The First Church of the Nazarene in Decatur, Illinois. To know Pat was to love him.
