Robert Peck, 86, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 15,2018 at 11:00 pm at Hickory Point Christian Village, Forsyth, Illinois.
A funeral service celebrating Bob’s life will be Friday morning, July 20th at 10:30 am at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church (2055 South Franklin Street Road) in Decatur. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5 pm to 7 pm, and one hour before service time, also at the church. Burial will follow at Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown. Tanzyus Logan Funeral Service and Care is in charge of the arrangements.
Bob was born in February of 1932, in Decatur, Illinois, the son of John Hugh and Verna Elizabeth Peck. He grew up in Decatur along with his six brothers and four sisters. Bob attended several elementary schools in Decatur and was a 1950 graduate of Decatur High School. He worked as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Decatur for fifty years. Bob loved his job and the many friends he made as he brought his customers their mail, a smile, and a positive attitude every day. Bob loved family gatherings. He was a devoted Cincinnati Reds fan and especially enjoyed watching the Big Red Machine teams of the 1970’s. Bob played slow pitch softball until the age of 70. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and the U.S. Postal Service Labor Union, Branch #317.
Bob married Mary Lou Shearer in November of 1953. He married Nancy White in February of 1984. He is survived by his wife, Nancy, daughters Bobbi (Barry) Edwards, Terri (Rick) Hinton, all of Decatur, and Sarah (Ed) Irwin of Cape Coral, Florida, grandchildren Jeff Kresse, of Denver, Colorado, Jason (Sarah) Kresse of North Baltimore, Ohio, Matthew Edwards of Decatur, and Collin and Kiera Irwin of Cape Coral, Florida, great grandchildren Ryleigh, Bryson, and Ella Kresse of North Baltimore, Ohio, brothers Richard (Marilyn) Peck of Cookeville, Tennessee, James (Susie) Peck of Decatur, and sister Patty Warnick, of Monticello, Illinois and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Hugh, Jack William, Vern, and Tom, and sisters Mary Jordan, Shirley Price, and Janet Keenan.
Bob will be missed by the many people whose lives he touched. Memorials may be made to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and the Alzheimer’s Association.
