Thelma A. Hickisch 1928-2020

20057

With a servants heart and after a fruitful life on earth Thelma “Bobbie” Hickisch entered fully into the presence of her Lord and Saviour on May 29, 2020. Thelma was born in June of 1928, in Kensett Arkansas, the seventh child/daughter of Albert and Ethel Stone.

Thelma came to Decatur Illinois after graduating from Bald Knob Arkansas High School. Soon after coming to Decatur she met the love of her life Ed Hickisch. Within six months, in November of 1950, they were married. They spent 52 wonderful years together before his death in December 2002. Thelma worked at JC Penny in the late 40’s before taking on the task, along with Ed, of raising their three daughters. She raised them with a gentle voice and loving hands. In the late 60’s she went to work at Decatur Public Schools where she worked until the early 90’s.

Thelma’s family all adored her and she will be remembered for her loving ways, putting others first, homemade noodles, potato salad, deviled eggs, homemade pies. She had many friends. Once a friend always a friend. Many friendships were over 80 years. Central United Methodist Church of Decatur was her church home for over 70 years.

She is survived by daughters Debbie (Steve) Leach of Maroa, Kay (David) Koonce of Illiopolis; Son-in-law Kevin Moran of Decatur; grandchildren Travis (Nora), Corey (Natalie), Stacey, James; great grandchildren Kyle Grace, Olivia, Joshua, Knox; brother Grady (Judith) Stone of Ft. Smith Arkansas, sister LaVerne Carver of Little Rock Arkansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter Diane Moran; six sisters; one brother. Thelma’s family greatly appreciate and thank the staff at Randall Assisted Living for the care and love they gave her. A special thank you to Arla Thomas who was not only her driver to dialysis for sixteen months but a special friend.

Due to COVID 19 a private family service will be held Tuesday June 2, 2020 with Melissa Ebken officiating. Tanzyus Logan is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are to the Kidney Foundation … at 30 East 33rd New York NY 10016
