William Philip Knight, 80, of Decatur died Wednesday, June 28, 2017 in his residence.
Funeral service to celebrate his life will be 10:30 am. Saturday, July 1, 2017 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church (1 Bachrach Court, Decatur, IL. 62526). Visitation will be one hour before at the church. Burial will be at 3:00 pm. Saturday in Hillcrest Cemetery, Centralia, IL. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or the Lutheran School Association (2001 E. Mound Rd., Decatur, IL 62526). Tanzyus-Logan Funeral Service and Care is in charge of the arrangements.
William was born in April of 1937 in Centralia, IL, son of Philip Reginald and Martha Knight. He served 8 years in the Air Force and saw service in Iwo Jima and England. There after he was employed by Northwest Airlines in Chicago; Billings, Montana; Miami; Honolulu; Anchorage and Memphis. He retired after 26 years. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran and the NRA. He enjoyed nature, and wildlife, photography, history, reading, travel and crossword puzzles. Bill married Sharon Elam September 27, 2003 in Decatur. She survives him.
Also surviving are his daughter, Davina Campell in Florida and her children, John, Luke and Catherine, 2 great grandsons and 2 great granddaughters, step-sons, Brian Elam and wife Shirley of Decatur, Glen Elam and wife Marian of Clinton, IL, Dennis P. Elam of Forsyth, and six step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James.
